The World's 100 largest machine tool manufacturers in 2024
In 2023, hpo forecasting published its first report on the 100 world's largest machine tool manufacturers. The comprehensive report was met with great interest, which encouraged us to publish it for the second time and in a completely updated form.
The report consists of a detailed Excel file and, where available, shows the development of the following key figures for each company over the last 10-20 years:
- Turnover
- Net profit
- Number of employees
- Mergers and acquisitions in the sector
The report is based exclusively on data compiled from various publicly available sources.
Compared to the previous year, some companies have dropped out of the top 100 and others have been added. Based on the market volume calculated by Gardner, the market share of the 100 largest machine tool manufacturers rose from 65 % to 67 % within a year.

Comparison previous year
Compared to the previous year, the following is striking (the currency conversion may obscure some things, but is essential for the comparison):
- The top 100 were able to expand their turnover by 12 % (which is slightly above inflation).
- Producers of laser machines and 3D printers recorded the strongest growth in turnover (approx. +20 %).
- Manufacturers of metal-cutting machines, which accounted for around 2⁄3 of machine tool turnover, recorded the lowest growth (approx. 9 %).
- The strongest growth in turnover (measured in €) was recorded by European manufacturers (DMG-Mori's turnover was split between Japan and Europe).
- Japan and Europe are almost equally represented in the top 100 sales, together accounting for almost ¾ of sales.
